Coinfig doesn't need your ID to calculate crypto tax

Published: 7 September 2026Updated: 16 September 2026By Coinfig

You can calculate your crypto tax in Coinfig without uploading an identity document or entering your ID number. The calculations use the transaction history you connect or import.

ID and tax numbers are optional. You can add them if you want them printed on your report.

What we need to calculate your tax

Coinfig works with:

  • wallet addresses or extended public keys
  • exchange history, connected through a read-only API key or uploaded as a CSV
  • the dates, amounts, assets, and fees recorded in that history

These records let us match transfers, flag gaps, and produce a report. If you prefer not to connect an exchange by API, you can import CSV statements from supported sources.

What you provide when creating an account

You sign up with an email and password, or with Google or Microsoft SSO. We do not ask for a government-issued ID number, tax reference, passport, driver's licence, or proof of address to create an account. There is no KYC check before you can import your history.

Your account still contains personal information, including your email address. Signing in through an SSO provider may also share your name and basic profile information with Coinfig. The Privacy Notice lists the information we process.

The first setup step is connecting a source. You can skip it and add your records later, without completing a profile form first.

ID and tax numbers on your report

ID number and tax number are optional fields in Preferences. Reports still generate if you leave them blank. The PDF marks those lines as "to be completed", so you can fill them in later if needed.

If you add those details in Preferences, Coinfig can print them on your report for you or your practitioner. Coinfig does not submit tax returns on your behalf. When you file a return, you still use your real taxpayer details.

The Privacy Notice includes ID and tax numbers among the information we may process "where required for reporting context". You can include them on a report. They are not required to calculate your tax.

Payments and accountant access

If you subscribe, PayFast or Stripe processes your payment. Coinfig does not store full card numbers.

If you give an accountant access, they can see the workspace you have authorised them to access, including the information you have added there.

Why we keep identity documents out of the process

We do not need passport scans, selfies, or proof of address to calculate tax from your transaction records. Avoiding that collection reduces the personal information we hold and need to protect.

Exchange credentials and financial records still need careful handling. Our Privacy Notice explains our security measures, and section 6 explains when information may be shared.

Getting started

Create an account, add a wallet or import a CSV, and review your transactions. You can leave your ID and tax numbers blank.
