Coverage

Direct from source. No re-keying.

Coinfig reads your history straight from the origin: read-only API connections to your exchanges, and on-chain data pulled per transaction rather than re-typed from a statement you exported. We run our own archival infrastructure for Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, Dogecoin and Cardano, and our own Ethereum archive node, the authoritative source for the ETH movements we report, including the internal transfers most tools miss.

Exchanges

Direct, read-only API connections to the venues you actually use, local and global, plus a universal CSV importer for everything else.

Blockchains

On-chain wallet coverage read transaction by transaction, rather than from a file you export. We run our own archival infrastructure for Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, Dogecoin and Cardano. The remaining chains come from chain-data providers.

The difference

A score that tells you when to trust the number.

Most tools calculate. Coinfig also grades the data behind your figures from 0 to 100, so you can see whether they are defensible before you pay. The data completeness score is the lower of two pillars, Coverage and Evidence, and it shows what share of your activity it was computed on.

Coverage

Is anything missing?

Everything that came into your accounts against everything that went out, coin by coin, value-weighted so a $1 gap doesn't tank a clean year.

Evidence

Where your coins came from

Crypto that arrives from a source you have not connected is valued at the market price on the day, a fair estimate but an estimate rather than a record. The weaker pillar is the one that sets your score.

How it works

Four steps, messy to filed.

1

Connect

Link exchanges via read-only API, add wallet addresses, or upload a CSV. Read-only access is enforced throughout, so Coinfig can never trade or move funds.

2

Complete

Run completeness checks and surface every gap, orphaned transfer and unknown event before you pay. No surprises at report time.

3

Review

Walk through classifications, assumptions, tax year and method. Every change is logged and auditable.

4

FAQ

Common questions.

Everything you need to know about Coinfig and your crypto tax reporting.

Coinfig turns your exchange and wallet history into clear capital gains and income figures for the US calendar tax year. It works out proceeds, cost basis and net gain on every disposal, and separates short-term from long-term based on how long you held each lot.

You get downloadable, transaction-level schedules and workings that support your filing, including the capital gains figures reported on Form 8949 and Schedule D. Coinfig is a calculation and reporting tool, not tax advice, and it does not imply any endorsement by the IRS.

US tax rules separate crypto held for one year or less (short-term) from crypto held longer than one year (long-term). Short-term gains are generally taxed at ordinary income rates, and long-term gains at lower rates.

Coinfig tracks the holding period of every lot and reports your disposals split into short-term and long-term, so the figures line up with how the IRS treats them. Your actual rates depend on your income and personal circumstances.

Coinfig calculates cost basis lot by lot, so every disposal traces back to the specific units you acquired and the price you paid, with the full working shown behind each figure.

From 2025 the IRS expects cost basis to be tracked on a per-wallet or per-account basis. How that applies to your own history is worth reviewing with a tax professional, and Coinfig shows its assumptions clearly so you can check them.

Yes. Crypto received as income, for example from staking rewards, mining, airdrops or payment for work, is generally taxable at its fair market value on the day you receive it.

Coinfig records these as income events and values them at the time of receipt, kept separate from the capital gains on any later disposal. For how a specific reward should be treated, check with a tax professional.

Yes. When you connect an exchange through its API, Coinfig uses read-only access to import your transaction history. It cannot place trades or move funds.

If you prefer not to share an API key, you can also import your history by CSV from most exchanges.

Coinfig supports direct read-only integrations with selected exchanges and universal CSV imports for most exchanges that provide downloadable trading history.

If you use a US exchange with a non-standard export format, support can confirm the fastest way to bring your history in.

No. Coinfig provides calculations and reports based on the data you import and the settings you choose. It does not provide personalised tax advice, and it does not imply any endorsement or approval by the IRS.

For complex situations, such as business trading, mining, or unusual transactions, consult a qualified tax professional. You remain responsible for what you file.
