Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of coinfig.tax and the Coinfig application, operated by Silver Sixpence (Pty) Ltd (“Coinfig”). By creating an account or using the service you agree to these terms.
The service
Coinfig imports your crypto transaction history from the exchanges, wallets and files you connect, and calculates a tax position to help you prepare a return. You are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of the data you connect.
Not tax advice
Coinfig is software, not a registered tax practitioner. Our reports are a tool to assist you and your advisor. They are not tax, legal or financial advice. You remain responsible for your own filings with SARS or any other authority. Coinfig is not endorsed by SARS or any other authority.
Subscriptions and payment
Coinfig is sold as an annual subscription. The workspace, including imports, transaction editing, calculations, balances per source, the Data Completeness Score and all preferences, is available on every plan. The basic filing-support tax report is included on every plan, for every tax year, within that plan’s data allowance. The plans are:
- Free (R0). Available only where you reach Coinfig through a trusted partner we have an arrangement with. It covers one account that the partner connects and keeps in sync for you, and up to 100 transactions in total. It does not include other report types, raw data exports, an accountant link or the Xero export. Creating an account on your own, or adding your own connection, does not qualify for the free plan.
- Starter. R190 per year in South Africa. Elsewhere the price is shown at checkout. Any import method, up to 1,000 transactions in total and up to 5 data sources, and raw transaction data exports.
- Advanced. R2,500 per year in South Africa. Elsewhere the price is shown at checkout. Unlimited transactions and data sources, every report type including the audit report, the accountant link, the Xero export, the ability to ring-fence sources into separate pools, and priority support.
If your data exceeds your plan’s allowance, or you ask for something your plan does not include, report generation, exports and final tax figures are locked until you upgrade or reduce your data. Your imported data is retained. Nothing is deleted.
Plans, prices and allowances published before 18 August 2026 continue to apply to purchases made under them. If you hold an active subscription bought under an earlier plan, you keep the price and the data allowances you purchased for as long as that subscription remains active and renewing, even where the current published plan of the same name is priced differently or allows less. Tax years already licensed under an earlier plan stay licensed on the terms they were bought on. The plans above apply to new purchases and to upgrades.
Each paid subscription permanently entitles you to the tax years it covered. If your subscription later lapses, you keep access to view and download the reports for those covered years, at the plan level you paid for. A Starter year stays within Starter coverage. A covered tax year also keeps earlier years available, in line with our existing licence convention. New tax years after a lapse need an active subscription again. This means you can still retrieve the reports you paid for if SARS audits you, even if you have not renewed.
Fees are shown at checkout. South African users are billed in Rand through PayFast (card or EFT). Users elsewhere are billed by card through Stripe, in euros or pounds sterling where we offer that currency, and otherwise in US dollars. Subscriptions renew automatically each year at the then-current plan price. If you upgrade part-way through a period, we charge a pro-rata amount for the remainder of that period and bill the new plan in full at renewal. A pro-rata remainder under R20 is waived.
Promotional or partner discount codes apply to your first purchase only, and renewals are charged at full price. No transaction settles below R20 (or $1), and a discount cannot reduce a subscription to no charge.
Each subscription is tied to the account of the person whose data it covers and cannot be transferred to another account. Someone else, such as your accountant or tax practitioner, may pay for your subscription on your behalf, and you may also pay for it yourself. Paying for someone else’s subscription does not transfer it. The entitlement stays with the account whose data it covers. Accountants do not need their own subscription to manage client data they have been given access to. They need a personal subscription only for their own personal tax reports. Linking an accountant to a client account, and keeping that link active, requires the client account to be on the Advanced plan. Either the client or the practice may pay for it. We may suspend a link while the client account is not on Advanced.
Users who previously purchased a per-tax-year licence or a legacy annual subscription keep Advanced-level access to the tax years their purchase covered, plus all earlier years, permanently. This mirrors how an Advanced-covered year works for current plans. They do not keep access to future tax years. Once a legacy paid period ends, or for a one-off year licence beyond the year bought, any new tax year needs an active subscription like any other user. A legacy annual subscription that is still active and renewing keeps its access while it remains paid.
Refunds and cancellation
If your plan renews automatically, you can cancel at any time and keep access until the end of the period you paid for. We do not offer refunds for a change of mind once you have used a paid plan, but you keep every right the law gives you. These include:
- A cooling-off right where the law provides one, for example under the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act. This right may end once the paid service has started with your agreement, such as when you generate a paid report.
- If you are a consumer in South Africa, the right to cancel an automatically renewing plan on 20 business days’ notice and receive a refund of the unused part of your fees, less any reasonable cancellation charge the Consumer Protection Act allows.
- A remedy if the service is not provided with reasonable care and skill.
- If you are a consumer in Ireland or elsewhere in the European Economic Area, the right to withdraw from a purchase within 14 days, as set out in section 9.3 of ourTerms of Use.
If you are a consumer outside South Africa, you keep the protections of the consumer law of your country that cannot be excluded by agreement.
Acceptable use
- Connect only accounts and wallets you are entitled to access.
- Do not attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer or gain unauthorised access to the service.
- Do not use the service for any unlawful purpose.
- Do not use bots, scripts, crawlers or scrapers against the app, the API or the help centre. The only exception is search engines and AI answer services indexing our public pages so that they can appear in results. Do not bypass rate limits or access controls.
- One person, one account. Do not create accounts in bulk, with false details, or to get around plan limits or the conditions of the free plan.
- Do not use the service, its outputs or its responses to build, train, benchmark or improve a competing product, or to reconstruct how its calculations work.
- Do not use Coinfig content, including the help centre, guides, reports and outputs, to train or fine-tune AI or machine-learning models, or for text and data mining, without our written permission. Search engines and AI answer services may index our public pages as our robots.txt allows, so that those pages can appear in search results and answers.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these rules, without a refund where the law allows.
Ownership of content and reports
Coinfig owns the software, the website, the help content and the report formats. You own your own transaction data. We give you a licence to use your reports for your own tax affairs and to share them with your advisor and SARS or any other tax authority.

Availability and liability
We work to keep the service available and accurate but provide it on an “as is” basis, to the extent the law allows. Nothing in these terms limits a right or liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including your rights under the Consumer Protection Act, or our liability for fraud, gross negligence or wilful misconduct.
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for penalties, interest or assessments imposed by a tax authority, for indirect or consequential loss, or for incorrect figures caused by missing, incomplete or incorrect data you supplied. Our total liability for all claims together is limited to the fees you paid for each tax year whose report is affected or, where no report is affected, the fees you paid in the 12 months before the event that gave rise to the claim.
Changes
We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated, and continued use means you accept the updated terms.
